#98. Allen Konigsberg Fan Club

Tonight, I finally made it through a DVD I’ve had from Netflix since November of last year. (Yes, about 6 months… I know…)

With that DVD completed, I’ve now got one film left until I’ve seen all of the films Woody Allen wrote or directed, with the exception of the titles mentioned below. If you’ve got copies of any of the missing works in DVD, VHS, mp4, or any other format, I’d love the chance to see them. Otherwise, I’m considering this one complete after the final film has been seen.

The final film, ordered on VHS from Amazon, is the 1969 feature “Don’t Drink the Water.” It should arrive within the next week, and then I’ll post my top 5 W.A. films list.

Here’s what I’m missing:

Shorts:

  • “Count Mercury Goes to the Suburbs” (1997-Short)
  • “Somebody or the Rise and Fall of Philosophy” (1989-Short)

Films:

  • “Pussycat, Pussycat, I Love You” (1970-Film)**
  • “The Laughmaker” (1962-TV or Film?)

TV:

  • “Sounds From a Town I Love” (2001-TV)
  • “Men of Crisis: The Harvey Wallinger Story” (1971-TV)
  • “The Kraft Music Hall: Woody Allen Special” (1969-TV)
  • “The Sid Caesar Show” (1963-TV)
  • “Candid Camera” (1960-TV)
  • “The Garry Moore Show” (1958-TV)
  • “Stanley” (1956-TV)
  • “Caesar’s Hour” (1954-TV)
  • “The Colgate Comedy Hour” (1950-TV)

** By the way, if you’ve got a copy of “Pussycat, Pussycat, I Love You,” please don’t tell me. It’s the sequel to a film I hated, and I’ve heard it’s even worse. I’m allowed to skip one film, right?

Changes to the List

I’m making some changes to the list:

  • For a long time, I’ve been interested in learning to write in a different handwriting style, namely that swoopy French style of writing I see on bistro menus and old letters from my French pen pal, so #28. Freebie –> Find French handwriting guide and use it.
  • It’s time to finally organize my photos (digital and analog), so #85. Freebie –> Organize my photos.
  • I’ve decided not to continue working on my emergency preparedness guide (because of a few similar guides on the market). Instead, I’m gearing up now for my next big challenge… #83. Pitch and sell a TV show. It’s a big one, but I’ve signed up for a MediaBistro class, so I guess I’ve taken the first step.

Also, I should have updates soon on a few of the 101 items I’ve been working on.

Offline for a while

I’m offline for a few days, since my computer’s hard drive died. I’ve got another 101 to cross off, but that’s going to be put on hold while I replace my hard drive, handle a bunch of stuff at work, and generally just try to do ten things at once. If you’ve emailed me in the last few days and haven’t heard back, I promise I’m not ignoring you… I’m just swamped and trying to get my computer up and running so I can finish some web sites. I hope to be back by the end of the week.

Giving Thanks for Thanksgiving

I’ve been glued to my computer for days, but haven’t managed to get much done. (How does that happen?!). My blogging has slacked off, my web clients are beginning to wonder if I’ll ever finish their projects, my dentist gave me extra time this morning on the “TENS” machine that’s supposed to relax my jaw muscles, and I can track the ups and downs of my day by the number of times I got angry because Google Calendar couldn’t access one of my 12 calendars.

I can’t wait for Thanksgiving… a whole week away from the TV job, so I can power through my web work and be relaxed for December! Oh, and this little walk I’m doing on Saturday should get my mind off things, too. Anyone want to join in?

Driver’s License Advice

Thanks for your well-wishes. I’m feeling much better this week!

Now I need advice.

The current picture on my driver’s license is a really good one… of my 19-year-old self. It looks so little like me that, on occasion, I’ve been asked to provide a second form of ID. My license is set to expire in January, and I can’t decide whether to renew in person or by mail.

If I go to the DMV to get a new picture, I have to deal with (a) Finding time to go, (b) DMV hassles, and (c) The risk of getting a really BAD picture. If I renew by mail, I’m stuck with the old picture for another 10 years (unless I decide to get a new picture before the next renewal).

Any ideas?

Out Sick

I’m sick this week, so I’m not going to be posting much, but I’ve got some things nearing completion soon, so I’ll be crossing those off in the next few weeks.

When I grow up

I’ve hated my job for most of the last 7-8 years. It’s getting to the point where I dread talking about it so much that I’ve cancelled invitations to parties and events. I know it’s popular to hate reality TV. I hate it, too. But when I’m asked what I do, and I say that I’m a reality TV editor, the first thing I usually hear is, “Oh God, I can’t stand all that crap! Which shows did you do? You didn’t do that awful [insert name of my last job] show, did you?” Just lovely.

I’m thinking of moving over to interactive design, but I’m not sure where I fit into that world. I can edit video and audio, design and code web sites, and do (very) basic print layout, but I don’t think I’ve got the drive to be a designer - aside from my addiction to pretty magazine spreads, simple fonts, and retractable Sharpies. Right now I’m working on adding Flash and PHP to my repertoire, and I’m considering project management, but it sounds a little boring. Anyone have any suggestions?

101 List Changes

I’m making changes to the list. Here’s what’s coming, what’s going, and why I think I can get away with it…

  • I’m removing #18. Learn Ruby on Rails, since I think PHP and Flash are enough coding/programming skills to master in the remaining time. I’m replacing this with something I’ve been thinking about quite a bit lately: Play tuba in a Dixieland jazz band. Anyone know of a jazz band in LA looking for a tuba?
  • #52. Find a Buddhist teacher isn’t really an interest of mine now. I’m going to continue reading books about Buddhism, but I’m substituting Complete the Intro to Judaism course at the UJ.
  • Since my old roommate no longer lives in LA, I’m deleting #67. Have lunch or dinner with my roommate. This spot’s now a Freebie.
  • I ended my gym membership months ago, so #79. Go to the gym at least twice a week for a month is out. In its place, I’m adding Complete the Couch-to-5K Running Plan.
  • After listening to Randy Newman’s “I Love LA,” I decided to add a new challenge to replace #86. Freebie, which is to Compile a list of 6 reasons the line “6th Street… We love it!” actually makes sense.
  • I’m adding #99. Spend a weekend at Costanoa in place of a Freebie, because, well, just look at the web site.

Back from Vacay

OK, so I went on vacation and didn’t tell you. I promise I won’t do it again. I’m back now, and I’ve got a bunch of things to post, starting with my “Summer Vacation Series: Relive the Magic.” Enjoy!

Radio Silence?

I know it’s been a while. The good news: I’m moving on Wednesday! (Just down the street) The bad news: I’m moving on Wednesday! (So, I’m busy, busy, busy)

The Spelling Bee’s on Sunday, so I’ll post after that. Until then… radio silence.
