#46. Mr. Craig Ferguson’s Show

CraigFerguson on TV

This afternoon, I headed over to CBS studios (near the Grove) to watch a taping of “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” A good time was had by all.

Last year, I worked on a show called “A Day in the Life of Television,” which went behind the scenes at 15 different TV shows, to document, well, a day in the life of television. My job was part assistant editor (the technical work of post production) and part story editor (the story part of post production), and I was assigned “The Late Late Show” as one of my stories to outline. It was by far the best story I had to work with, and I got to know the “characters” inside and out. I also became a big fan of Craig Ferguson (and his warm-up guy, Chunky B).

The crew and the show itself did not disappoint. Chunky B is one of the hardest-working, funniest warm-up guys in the business. I enjoyed watching him take a group of unenthusiastic audience members and turn them into wildly applauding “show enhancers” (his phrase). Craig Ferguson, of course, entertained with his free-flowing monologue and banter with the guests.

The guests, Michael Ian Black and Jon Favreau, were terrific. I chose today’s taping since I’m a fan of Michael Ian Black’s comedy. The Jon Favreau appearance was news to me. Now I’m pretty sure he’s stalking me, since he made a surprise appearance on “The Carson Daly Show” when I went to a taping a few months back, and he’s also a member of my synagogue.

So it was a good time. I couldn’t take any photos, because they didn’t allow cameras or cameraphones at the taping. I’ll try to get a shot of the show when it airs tonight (12:35 AM on CBS). If not, I’ll come up with something artsy and tv-related to stand in for this picture.

Update: I got a shot of the show as it aired last night. Not great, but it’s a picture!

Lucky. Sounds like fun!

I thought Favreau was stalking me for a while. Turned out it was a small Chinese woman.

Weird, no?

Glad you had a great time! And now, I’m craving breakfast. One of the bad things of being off, I get burnt out of making breakfast :)

On a related note, I dreamt the night before last that I was in a televised story-telling contest, and the judges were Craig Ferguson and the guy who sits in the cube next to me at work.

Peter, I think Jon Favreau sometimes is a small Chinese woman. Maybe that’s the confusion.

Tamara, breakfast sounds good. I’m going to make Eggs Benedict on Sunday, I think. Today’s breakfast was baked sweet potato fries. Yum.

Mace, I don’t know about your co-worker, but I think Craig Ferguson would be a fairly lenient judge. Did you win the contest?

Favreau… is there anything he can’t do?

Now I’m craving breakfast too. And it’s 4 in the afternoon here.

I just ate way too many sweet potato fries, so no more breakfast for me!

Well, I went to breakfast. Wasn’t happy with it. My omelet was a scramble. My easy cheese was drowing in cheese. I let the waitress know. I felt guilty because she didn’t charge me. I wanted to pay and she wouldn’t let me. So I left her 5 bucks. I like this restaurant, but the two times I’ve been I haven’t been please. I guess I have to not like it anymore :( At least not my fave breakfast place. Sigh…

Glad your fries were yum :)

That wasn’t Fred 62, was it? I thought that breakfast we had the other day was great.
