101 in 1001

While procrastinating on my writing last night, I came across a great idea for goal-setting that’s a couple of years old. (How did I miss it?!). Via Say it, don’t spray it!, I got to 23 Seconds to Circulate, who’s participating in 101 Things in 1001 Days. Here’s the concept, from Triplux:

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

So, I spent some time last night and today making my list (while I probably should have been writing). I’m going to be adding it to the blog, along with a countdown clock. I’ll post updates - one of my 101 is to take a picture of every 101 that I do - and cross off things as they’re accomplished. Hey, at least I’ve got a focus here for once.

Very nice! Cool idea…I may have to consider it myself.

Nice blog, by the way. I’ll definitely be back!

This is a great idea! I’m feeling inspired.

I’m glad to see someone else doing this! :) G’luck with all these!!

Where are you located (I found you through Jill, who’s in Pasadena. I’m in Monrovia) ? I may be able to help (slightly) with #34. I know a fellow who shows up at the wine tastings at the Wine Shoppe in Monrovia (the click n mortar side of Wine of the Month Club). I took pix of a tasting a while back, told people I’d be putting them on the internet, and he held up a sign saying “Sweethert wanted.” have I posted pix yet? No. Daily Guilt indeed. Anyhow, I can introduce you to someone who knows wine and is kinda local and you could go tasting with someone other than your folks and cross that off your list. :)

BTW, WOTM hasn’t posted their December tasting schedule, but it’d be here. I’m thinking of going there tomorrow night:

Susan - Thanks for the offer. I’d love to meet a guy who likes wine! I’ll email you to discuss. :)

Another one who found you through Jill, I’ve gotta say I love this idea. I have what I call my life list, but this is even better. It actually puts a deadline on it to ensure you don’t procrastinate. I sense a revision coming on.

I love this idea. I’m so glad I found you! #54 of my 101 tasks was to post a witty response on a beautiful stranger’s fantastic blog! I’m off to check that off of my list…

[...] I got this idea from various folk like Cat, Melanie and Michael, and I like the sound of it. [...]

Awesome idea, great website! I’m going to have to read through your checked off items and keep reading to see how many more of your 101 you can check off.

Good luck on all 101!

Hey!!! I’m doing this too…. well good luck!!!! :)

This is SO cool! I heard about you thanks to a fellow coach (Morgana Rae) and am so happy to have discovered your site and the idea behind it. I now have my own list and my partner and I are creating one together. It’s such a great tool - inspirational, motivational, it makes life feel even more exciting!

THANK YOU Melanie!

cool bananas! i love this idea, i’m starting today (and thanks corrina for the heads up)

I saw your blog and decided to join the party. Thanks for the inspiration. Oh and PS - I freely admit I stole some of your ideas but they were GOOD ideas!

Nicole, not to worry… the good ideas are probably the ones I stole from someone else. :)

You have inspired me… and I’m of to challenge some of my friends. This is a great idea, and I’m so happy I wandered across your blog!

Hi. I like that you are doing this.

I live in Prague, Czech Republic. To live in Europe, for at least one year, has been on my to do list for awhile. So this past July, I just decided it was time. Been living in Prague since september. It is amazing to be affected by so much change all at once. It’s super wierd too, and funny. So now I have to travel to at least 6 counties while I’m here, thats the next goal. I want Croatia to be one of them. I want to go there when its warm and explore and do whatever people do there. I noticed that as one of your things. If you want to go to Croatia early this summer, or whenever…I’ll meet you, give you a high five and make you laugh your ass off.

Bye.

was thinking (procrastinating while posing like i was thinking) of how to start a blog. i like your idea.

Hi ! Very nice list ! I hope you will be able to do everything you wrote, I know it’s difficult, but that’s why it’s so nice :)
If you want to see my own list in french (sorry for my English, I’m french…) it is here : La liste”>
And good luck !

So what happen to your web design page? so you finally quit and gave up. Just could not handle the pressure I guess…

Thanks for the vote of confidence, “Tim”. I’ve given up freelance web design to work as a full-time account manager for an interactive design firm. I now only accept clients on a personal referral basis, so I no longer advertise online.

Hello! I love this blog. I took a blogging seminar recently and our instructor directed us to it as an example of an outstanding blog that gets readers to come back again and again. I’ve started my own blog in the wake of the class and I have a question for you–how did you create that list? I’d like to do my own list on my blog–would you mind telling me how? I’m completely new at this thing, as you can see at renelynch.wordpress.com Any advice you can give me would be welcome. Thanks again for you blog, which has been great reading and quite inspirational. I wish you success in all that you do. XXOO Rene
